Please practice multiplication facts up to 12x12 with your child for 10 minutes every night.  This could be flash cards, but could also be a card game (multiplication war) that the students have learned in class, an app, or computer game.  There are computer games on my portaportal. Your child can also teach you a game called Four In A Row.

Students have begun timed testing and will have a practice quiz every week.  The first quiz that will count as a grade will be March 26th.  Students are expected to do 50 problems in 10 minutes and will have a chance to advance to other levels of testing.

Language Arts:
Spelling:  Affixes-choice assignment
Social Studies: 
1.   Bring in a positive quote from a famous person of African heritage.  (a notecard was given for this assignment)
2.  Semester Test-Friday-a crossword puzzle will be sent home for review.
3.  Students must complete their "Hero Project" by Friday.  Five days of class time has been given for this assignment.  Most students have already turned them in.

Math - HWB 90
Students should be practicing multiplication facts nightly to prepare for timed tests.

Spelling:  Consonant digraphs-students will use a total of 20 words, plus the bonus word for the choice assignment.  (We apologize for the mistake on the heading for this week's spelling list).  We know these are consonant digraphs, and not blends.

Spelling: Please see the information about the new spelling program that will begin this week. You will find this in the homework folder, or the agenda.  For the choice homework, students must use the ten assigned  words and ten of their own words that match the spelling pattern.
 Reading: A book project will be assigned.  These will be due March 2nd.  Parents, please cut, sign and return the parent portion of the form.  Students will be given a book to use for this project.

Homework for the Week of October 24, 2011
Language Arts:  No Spelling list this week.
Reading Response journal: will come home this week on Wednesday for any student who did not finish it in class.  This is a big part of the reading grade as it counts as a test/project. This must be complete by Friday.  Students must answer the focus question, complete the wonder words, and answer two of the other questions.  Students have had much instruction and practice on this and they know what to do.
Science: Water Cycle
Monday: Read pages D14 -D21
Tuesday: Complete pages 183-184. Remember to use your book to help you find the correct answer. Then write the page number next to the question. 

Thursday: Test on the Water Cycle.
Friday: Science notebook is due for grading. The interactive notebook should be complete. Neatness is important. This counts as a project/test grade.
Social Studies:  Choice Project is due Friday.  Students must choose either the poem or the letter.  
Friday: 
Social Studies notebook will be due for grading.Unit test covering map skills, explorers, and China information presented this week will be given on Friday.
